GREAT LOOKING WEBSITES THAT WORK
I design and produce really good looking and functional websites that work. My main specialism is eCommerce websites and online shops with the added alchemy of great design and excellent production. That’s it really but I know you want to find out a little more about what they are, who they’re for and how I do it…
I built my first commercial website in 2001 after being let down by a freelance developer and was left with a deadline and website to build. I’d already built and designed the brand, printed the stationery, commissioned the hand carved signage and produced concepts for a brochure. So the foundations were in place. Finally, I had to get my hands dirty and build the website. My client loved it and I decided to offer website design and production as a service.
As a web designer in Devon and Cornwall, I build websites in WordPress as it’s the leading Content Management System. It’s free to install but does need a template and some tinkering to produce an excellent, good looking and functional website. That’s where I step in and “do my stuff”. The bit you will like is that these websites are far lower cost than “static” websites. A static website cannot be updated by the client – it needs a designer or developer to carry out the updates. Some clients require a static website but most want a site they can update easily and quickly.
EXAMPLES OF MY WORK
King of Shaves eCommerceI have worked with King of Shaves since 2001 and produced a number of eShops for them. Launched in 2014, the site is vastly complex offering with multiple product types, stock control and CRM. Clean and elegant but under the bonnet the site is a powerhouse. An ongoing project with constant development.
Dan Pyne | Artist | WebsiteI had already built the Little Barn Goldsithney holiday let website for Dan and his wife, Amanda. Dan approached me to build a portfolio and gallery website that would portray the beauty of his work. Added to this, Dan also sells prints of his work… that’s where the eCommerce online shop came into being.
Concoction WebsiteI was approached by the founder of Concoction with a view to building a new eCommerce online shop supported by a promotional website. The idea was to revamp their original site and simplify the shopping process, offering customers’ more account tools and comprehensive support in the online experience.
shave.comI was invited to re-build the King of Shaves flagship consumer facing website. The existing site was based on older web technology and it was time for a refresh and a dust down. Now re-versioned as an eCommerce online shop.
King of Shaves SUBIn under 5 weeks, I designed and rolled out this subscription based website. It features a full eCommerce backend and subscriptions engine that completes the checkout process through PayPal. Myself and the team heavily customised the engine to offer a super-simple purchase experience.
The King of Shaves CompanyDesigned and produced in 2008 for the second largest (by sales) shaving company in the UK. The King of Shaves has a major global presence. The brief was to produce a CMS website with clean lines and ease of use for mass information. The website is still active and I update it on a weekly basis.
Little Barn | GoldsithneyMy client offered me an open design brief on this project – a very rare thing. The requirements were straight forward: It had to represent the area, communicate the facilities and have a simple way to view availability.
Kings 1965My client wanted the home page to represent the brand in it’s entirety. I created a multi-layer Flash movie with panning animation controlled by ActionScript. It welcomes you to Kings 1965 and immerses you in a Pythonesque style world.
Speedo UKKMI/Speedo invited me to build a website to promote the new product range. Back in 2002 when I designed the site Flash animation was the vogue and I also added some 3D elements for good measure.
Synergis Strategic ResourcingInnovation and quality were high on the Ardis agenda and I received a brief to build a website to communicate these values. I positioned Ardis on Google in the top 5 for over 4 years with minimum maintenance after the initial SEO activities.
